ColoradoA renewable portfolio standard that calls for state utilities to derive 30% of their electricity from renewable sources by 2020, coupled with a strong net-metering policy, has helped Colorado’s renewable energy industry take off in recent years. The state currently gets 14% of its electricity from non-hydro renewables, and 3% more from hydropower.1

And the state is undoubtedly a clean tech hotspot. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory, 20 minutes outside of Denver, had an economic impact of $814 million on Colorado’s economy in 2012 and has played an outsized role in the plummeting cost of renewables.2
